A multiplayer expansion titled Ghost of Tsushima: Legends was announced in August 2020 and was released on October 16, 2020, alongside the addition of a new game plus feature to the base game. Additional trophies were also added. Unlike the main game, Legends features prominent supernatural elements drawn from Japanese folklore and mythology. Players assume one of four available classes, and either take on the two-player story missions or four-player wave-based missions, although all missions can also be played solo. There is also a four-player raid, that takes place over three chapters. It was released on October 30, 2020, two weeks after the initial launch of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. The multiplayer expansion alongside the other updates to the game was released for free, for owners of the base game.

Story is limited to two players and consists of 10 arcs that must initially be completed in order before they can be replayed in any order. Each arc consists of three chapters. Every arc can be played on Bronze, Silver, or Gold difficulties, with various world mods with each difficulty. Additionally, there is a Nightmare difficulty that is present in the weekly Nightmare challenges.

Survival[]
Survival has four possible stages, that can be done with up to four players. Survival entails players defending three regions as wave after wave of enemies attack a certain region. Every fifth wave is a boss wave, which consists of more difficult enemies and a world modifier that provides enhancements to enemies. The available stages in Survival are The Shores of Vengeance, The Defense of Aoi Village, The Shadows of War, and Blood in the Snow.
Quickplay[]
Quickplay is divided into Story Quickplay and Survival Quickplay, which allows the player to quickly jump into an ongoing Story or Survival game when matchmaking is enabled, or it can be done with a party or matchmaking disabled.
